Homemade Powdered Sugar
Here is the awaited post about powdered sugar. Quick recap: power started flickering because we were having ice storms and I started craving cupcakes with buttercream frosting. After digging through my pantry looking for your basic baking needs. I always have them in my pantry and couldn't believe I hadn't restocked them in a while. All I could hear was my mom making fun of me for not having "the essentials". Yeah yeah, Mom, I know it's not a typical item in everyone's pantry, but in my family it is.
Now that I have ashamed my family I had to redeem myself. So, I did what any stubborn woman from my family (which is all of them) would do--I made my own. I used it to make my Mint and Chocolate Iced Brownies. I found this recipe and couldn't believe how easy it was!
The orange bowl on the left is granulated sugar and the purple bown on the right is my homemade powdered sugar. All you need is any form of granulated sugar: cane sugar, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and any other form of sugar you have on hand. Here is how you make it:
Step 1: Pour your granulated sugar in the blender.
Step 2: Turn on your blender and let it run until all of your sugar is now powdered.
Step 3: Sift to remove any chunks that did not get blended.
Step 4: Enjoy!
Amazing, right!? My jaw dropped, I couldn't belive how easy it was. My few suggestions are to make sure you blend it completely or else it'll still be a little grainy. Also, all of that friction in the blender makes the sugar a little warm so you may want to be careful just in case.
Mind blown, right? What essentials do you always keep on hand in your pantry or fridge? Have you ever not made something just because you were missing an ingredient?
