DIY Wire Picture Hangar
I'm not sure exactly what to call this thing, but it was my way of filling a hole in the wall decorations in our nursery. As we have been decorating the nursery I found a spot on the wall that needed something and I couldn't think of what to put there. I again did what any good DIY lady of the 21st century would do--scoured Pinterest!
I came up with an idea for some sort of basic wooden frame with metal in the middle and you could use clothespins to hold pictures and what-nots on it. This way when as she gets older or we use it for another space or another kid it can go well with all of that! I settled on the use of chicken wire for the backing. It was probably the easiest thing I've ever made! Although, after this project my husband did swear he was going to cancel my Pinterest account because he kept scratching his fingers on the chicken wire. He'll also probably get mad once he realizes I put a picture of him on the blog.
DIY Chicken Wire Picture
Supplies:
Chicken wire
1x2x8' board
Staple gun with staples
Stain
Miter Saw
Hot Glue gun with glue
Directions:
1. Miter your 1x2 to size. I wasn't worried about the size of the frame so I just cut 2 pieces a little shy of 2 feet and the rest was cut in half. Just make sure opposite sides are the same size or else your fame will be a funny shape.
2. Stain your wood. My sister repaired the crib so I had stain leftover from that and was able to use it. You don't need much at all and this way it matches perfectly to my crib.
3. Once dry, put 2 staples into the front of the frame to hold it together. I liked the rustic-ish look of the staples showing so I wasn't worried about them showing.
4. Carefully flip the frame over and cut your chicken wire to size.
5. Add staples along your chicken wire to the back of the frame making sure to pull tight with each piece so you don't get saggy chicken wire. Carefully trim any excess pieces.
6. Add a few more staples to the back in the corners of the frame to reinforce it and make it strong. We added 4 to each corner on the back to make sure there were no issues with the strength of the frame.
7. Carefully hammer the edges of the chicken wire down to make sure there are no pieces sticking out and could risk scratching your wall.
8. To prevent any possible scratching I also added a dollop of hot glue to each of the pointy ends of the chicken wire.
9. Add your hanging attachment and hang on the wall.
10. We got small clothespins to clip things to ours. Have fun with it mix and match anything.
